Raohe Night Market (饒河街觀光夜市)

Raohe Night Market's iconic entrance. Many of the big night markets in Taipei have this type of "gate-like" entrance!

Night markets are some of my favorite places to go in Taiwan! Not only are they an iconic part of Taiwan's night-scape, but they're a place for family and friends to meet up and have a bite, play games, and shop around for cute things. When you think of Taiwan and things to do there, it's hard not to think of night markets. (Night markets in Taiwan even has its own Wikipedia page!)

Raohe Night Market in particular is known for its good eats, so I had to go check it out!

This post will mostly be pictures, but I'll explain what's going on through the captions.

Hope you enjoy,

Deborah

Night markets in Taiwan typically have stalls in the middle of the road, as well as physical stores on each side of the road. Sometimes there will be temporary stores set up on the sidewalk in front of the physical stores, which are not in operation during the day.

Carnival-style games, where players can win toys or stuffed animals, are also commonly seen at night markets. They have games catered toward children as well as adults. This particular game is mahjong.

Another carnival-style game commonly seen at night markets, where you use an airsoft gun to pop balloons for prizes.

My first time trying conch! The sauce was something called "Taiwan Special Sauce." I liked the flavor and texture a lot more than I had initially expected.

My favorite snack to get at the night market, sausages (香腸).

My first time seeing (and trying) these freshly made iced mochis (現做涼圓).

Most night markets feature an eating area, such as the one seen in this photo. This usually consists of a covered area with plastic stools and tables, so people can comfortably sit down with their food and talk.

A very cute shiba tote bag that I very much regret not buying.
